NATCOM Recruitment Crisis: Senator Ned Nwoko Urges Calm

ABUJA/Nigeria: The recruitment exercise conducted by the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NATCOM) for applicants from Delta North Senatorial District has been put on hold following the commencement of a police investigation into allegations of fraud involving the Commission’s Acting Director General, Otunba Adejere Rewane Adegbenro.

In a statement issued by Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, it was disclosed that 3,000 applicants who were screened in Asaba in April 2024 are affected by the delay. Dr. Nwoko explained that the recruitment exercise encountered unforeseen challenges after Adegbenro was invited by the Special Weapons and Tactical Team (SWTT) of the Nigeria Police Force on April 26, 2024, in connection with a petition over the nationwide recruitment process.

Demonstrating his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, Senator Nwoko had fully sponsored the processing fees for all 3,000 applicants from Delta North, underscoring his determination to foster employment opportunities for the region’s unemployed youths. Dr. Nwoko appealed for patience among the affected applicants, assuring that updates would be communicated as soon as the ongoing police investigations are concluded.
