ASABA/Nigeria: The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has inducted Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, into its Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding infrastructural and human capital development across the state.
The induction ceremony took place on Tuesday at Government House, Asaba, and was performed by the Global President of NANS, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, who led members of the association’s National Executive Committee on a courtesy visit to the governor.
Emonefe, a Deltan, described Governor Oborevwori’s achievements as phenomenal, stating that his developmental strides were visible not only to Deltans but to Nigerians at large. He commended the governor for prioritizing education, youth empowerment, and infrastructural renewal, assuring him of the students’ unwavering support in advancing his administration’s MORE Agenda.
According to him, the upgrade of infrastructure in state-owned tertiary institutions, the renovation of 150 health centres, the appointment of youths into the cabinet, and various training and empowerment programmes had endeared the governor to the student community. He also lauded the administration’s commitment to ensuring regular bursary payments, noting that under Governor Oborevwori, Delta State students had received two bursary payments within a year.
“We are aware of your good deeds in the education sector and all other sectors of the state. The leadership of NANS has, therefore, resolved to induct you into the NANS Hall of Fame,” Emonefe said.
In his response, Governor Oborevwori thanked NANS for the recognition and reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing affordable and quality education at all levels. He noted that his government had prioritized youth inclusion in governance, allowing them to gain experience and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.
The governor revealed that more than 30,000 students of Delta State origin had benefitted from the bursary scheme, adding that efforts were ongoing to enhance the initiative. He also highlighted his administration’s decision to maintain affordable tuition fees despite rising economic challenges, ensuring that students could pursue higher education without financial strain.
“I believe in education; it is the foundation of a successful society. Delta is the only state with four public universities, and we remain committed to supporting our students in every possible way,” Governor Oborevwori said.
He called for continued support from all stakeholders to drive the sustainable development of the state, pledging to sustain policies that positively impact the lives of Deltans.
