Mulade Calls for Investigation Into Russian Flag Incident at Protests

WARRI/Nigeria: Chief Mulade Sheriff, a prominent Delta State-born environmental and peace advocate, has urged the Federal Government to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for waving the Russian flag during the #EndBadGovernance protest.

Chief Mulade, who serves as the National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), described the incident as a “treasonable offense with strong implications for Nigeria.” He emphasized that the #EndBadGovernance protest is focused on Nigeria’s internal socio-economic issues and should not involve symbols of other nations.

“The waving of the Russian flag is a serious offense that jeopardizes our nation’s sovereignty and security,” Chief Mulade stated.

“The federal government must not ignore this act but should investigate it thoroughly and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without any political bias.”

Addressing the broader context of the ongoing protests, he highlighted the widespread economic hardship affecting over 80 percent of Nigerians. He outlined five critical areas that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must address to alleviate the suffering of the populace.

“The Federal Government must take decisive action to address the economic hardships highlighted by the protests”.

“This includes reconsidering the pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS) for six months until the Port-Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries are operational.”

He continued, “The government should urgently tackle security challenges to ensure food security for our farmers, reduce the cost of governance starting with the Federal Government and state governors, and transform the student loan scheme into a ‘Student Educational Support Programme’ to better support our youth.”

Furthermore, he stressed the need for genuine efforts to combat corruption, urging the Federal Government to empower the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to operate without political interference.

“In order to build a sustainable future for our nation, we must strengthen our anti-corruption institutions irrespective of political affiliations,” he concluded.
