Maris Trust Council Selects Prof. Stella Chiemeke as Keynote Speaker for Annual Public Service Lecture
ASABA/Nigeria: The Maris Trust Council, MTC, has announced Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, as the Guest Speaker at the upcoming Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.
The disclosure was made on Monday in Asaba by Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, the Secretary of MTC, the organizers of the annual lecture series. Egugbo mentioned that choosing Prof. Chiemeke for this year’s lecture was a challenging decision due to the numerous suggestions from around the world. The lecture is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 12 noon in Asaba, Delta State.
“We are pleased to announce that Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, will deliver the 2024 edition of the Maris Annual Public Service Lecture,” stated Egugbo.
He highlighted that the decision was made after MTC’s meeting on Thursday, January 25, 2024, where they reviewed the names and topics suggested by the public for discussion this year. Prof. Chiemeke’s name was chosen from the list of eminent personalities, and she graciously accepted the invitation.
Egugbo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from the public, with more than thirty suggested topics for discussion. He acknowledged the global interest in participating in this year’s lecture, which maintains its traditional date of the Wednesday before Easter Sunday, falling on March 27, 2024. Previously, individuals such as the present Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, Chief Williams Makinde, Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie-Agas, and Chief Fidelis Okenmor Tilije have delivered the lecture.
Highlighting Prof. Chiemeke’s achievements, Egugbo noted that she is an exemplary educationist, astute administrator, and the first female Guest Speaker at the Maris Annual Public Service Lecture series. He emphasized her distinction as the first Professor of Computer Science in Delta State and the inaugural Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor.
In addition to her academic achievements, Egugbo pointed out that Prof. Chiemeke is affiliated with various professional bodies in Nigeria and abroad, including the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), where she has been a fellow since 1999. Notably, she has also served as the Director of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO) at the University of Benin.
The Maris Annual Public Service Lecture series, known for addressing societal challenges, continues its mission of providing solutions to pressing issues.
