Landslide, Coastal Erosion Victims Get Relief Materials from SEMA

BOMADI/Nigeria: Victims of Akugbene landslide and coastal erosion in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State have received cash and relief materials from the state government through the state emergency management agency, (SEMA).

The State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Barr Ernest Ogwezzy, who made the presentation alongside the Director, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Karo Ovomeso said the materials were not intended as compensation rather as show of faith by government to the people.

Barr Ogwezzy said that the effort followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by member representing Bomadi constituency, Honourable Oboro Preyor, which spurred the State House of Assembly to call on the government to intervene.

According to the Commissioner, SEMA inspected and made recommendations to the governor who graciously approved the grant and relief materials for the victims.

The relief materials include four hundred bags of cement, forty bundles of zinc and fifty packets of nail.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Secretary of Akugbene Community, Mr Pius Ebikome commended the state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for coming to their aid and promised that the cash and relief materials would be put to good use.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Bureau for special Duties Barr Ernest Ogwezzy has taken delivery of relief materials donated to the state by the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, for flood victims across the state.

Receiving the items which include bags of rice, mattresses, blankets, towels, mosquito nets, detergent and toiletries, Barr Ogwezzy thanked the Federal Government for its assistance which would go a long way in complementing the efforts of the state government at caring for persons displace by flood in the state.

The Commissioner also assured NEMA that the materials would get to the displace persons in holding camps across the state through the State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA).

The materials were presented to the Commissioner by the NEMA Incident Coordinator for Delta/Anambra, Centre, Mr Walson Ibarakumo.
