Landmark Oko Event Centre Inaugurated as Delta First Lady Empowers 500 Residents

OKO/Nigeria: Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the Wife of the Governor of Delta State, has officially inaugurated the Oko Event Centre, a state-of-the-art facility in Oko Amakom, Oshimili South Local Government Area. The occasion also witnessed the launch of a ₦50 million empowerment initiative aimed at uplifting 500 beneficiaries across the local government area. Each recipient received ₦100,000, while every political ward was allocated 20 bags of rice to support their communities.

The Oko Event Centre, a flagship project spearheaded by Hon. Dr. High Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, was hailed by the First Lady as a landmark achievement. She described it as a transformative project that holds immense socio-economic potential for the area.

Deaconess Oborevwori commended Dr. Obi Ezenyili for his grassroots-focused leadership and dedication to improving lives. She urged residents to rally behind the council’s initiatives, emphasizing that the Oko Event Centre would not only boost economic activities but also serve as a hub for fostering community growth and unity.

In his address, Dr. Obi Ezenyili highlighted the alignment of the project with the MORE agenda of the state government. He underscored the centre’s importance in addressing a longstanding need for a modern facility to host social and community events, reducing residents’ dependence on Asaba for such gatherings.

The council chairman also inaugurated the empowerment programme designed to foster inclusivity and reduce youth restiveness in the area. The beneficiaries included Persons with Disabilities, artisans, youth leaders, traditional institutions, religious groups, and members of diverse ethnic communities within Oshimili South.

Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, representing Oshimili South in the State House of Assembly, and Chief Victor Obi, the Odua of Oko Amakom, applauded the Governor and his administration for their commitment to grassroots development. They also called for further investments in the community, including the establishment of a secondary school in Oko Amakom to enhance educational opportunities.

The inauguration of the Oko Event Centre stands as a testament to the Oshimili South Council’s dedication to developmental governance, ensuring the delivery of impactful projects that improve the lives of the people.
