Isoko South Flood Crisis: Council Chairman Rallies Support for Displaced Residents

ARAYA/Nigeria: Residents of Isoko South Local Government Area in Delta State have been left homeless as schools, farmlands, and businesses have been submerged by severe flooding that has swept through multiple communities. Properties valued at several million naira have been destroyed across Araya, Uzere, Igbide, Okpolo-Enhwe, Enhwe, and other affected areas, making daily life increasingly challenging for those impacted.

Isoko South Council Chairman, Friday Ovoke Warri, conducted an on-site assessment of the damage over the weekend, expressing profound sorrow over the extent of the destruction. During his visit to Adam’s Memorial Secondary School in Araya, which now serves as a temporary shelter for internally displaced persons, Warri offered assurances to the flood victims that the council would remain steadfast in addressing their urgent needs.

He urged residents to heed government warnings and relocate from flood-prone areas to higher ground to ensure their safety.

Demonstrating solidarity with the displaced families, Warri stated that the government was actively working to provide necessary resources for their protection and welfare. “I stand in solidarity with you today,” he said.

“I will convey the gravity of this situation to the state government. We are fortunate to have a governor who understands the scale of your hardship, and I assure you that all necessary resources will be allocated to support you during this difficult period.”

Warri extended gratitude to community leaders and volunteers who are tirelessly assisting the displaced, emphasising his commitment to remain engaged with those affected. “You are my constituents,” he added, “and I am committed to supporting you, no matter where you are.”

The Council Chairman was accompanied on his visit by Ziino Osuofa, the Secretary to the Local Government, and other council officials who joined him in surveying the extent of the flood damage in Isoko South. At the time of this report, floodwaters continue to rise, displacing more residents and leaving homes submerged across the region.
