Isoko South Council Boss Warns of Unrest Over Arrest of Comedian MC 2Kingdom

OLEH/Nigeria: Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Friday Ovoke Warri, has raised concerns over possible unrest in Isoko Nation following the arrest of comedian Ajirioghene Otagba, popularly known as MC 2Kingdom. Warri called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure the entertainer’s immediate release and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
MC 2Kingdom was arrested last Friday by the Nigeria Police Force, allegedly on the orders of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contractor Matthew Edevbie, after the comedian posted a Facebook video criticizing the abandonment of the Isoko 132KVA substation electricity project. The contractor, an elder brother of former Delta State finance commissioner and PDP governorship aspirant David Edevbie, filed a petition accusing Otagba of defamation and cyberstalking. The comedian was initially detained in Lagos by the IG Monitoring Unit before being transferred to the Maitama Area Command in Abuja.
Warri condemned the arrest, warning that tensions were rising among Isoko youths over the detention of an entertainer who merely highlighted the prolonged neglect of a critical public infrastructure project. He urged Edevbie to facilitate MC 2Kingdom’s release and address the longstanding concerns about the stalled 132KVA substation at Ozoro, which has been abandoned for nearly a decade. He also decried the Niger Delta Development Commission’s failure to complete key projects in Isoko land, including the Uzere-Patani road and the electricity substation.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by stakeholders to prevent unrest, Warri reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the grievances of Isoko people. He called for calm and assured that necessary steps were being taken to resolve the matter.
