Isoko South Chairman Calls for Sustained Peace at Urie Fishing Festival
OLEH/Nigeria: The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Friday Ovoke Warri, has urged the people of Igbide community to maintain sustainable peace with their neighbors to foster development and unity.
Warri made the call on Friday at Owodokpokpo while attending the opening of the Urie Fishing Festival in the Igbide Kingdom. He assured that his administration would take steps to institutionalize the festival as an official local government event, aimed at promoting cultural values and attracting wider participation.
Emphasizing the role of peace in community progress, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing rural challenges under his Renewal Agenda. He noted that his presence at the festival, despite being from Okpolo-Enwhe, underscored the unity within Isoko South.
“Prior to now, I wouldn’t have been at liberty to stay here due to fear of crisis. However, today, I am here not just as the number one citizen of our local government but also as a son of Okpolo-Enwhe, just like other Igbide people who freely attend ceremonies in Okpolo-Enwhe,” Warri stated.
He advised royal families in Igbide to embrace peace, emphasizing that only one person can ascend the throne at a time. He added that strengthening the festival’s cultural heritage would enhance its appeal and attract more spectators in the future.
“Moving forward, the Urie Fishing Festival will become an integral part of the Isoko South Local Government Council’s annual celebration. We will make every effort to engage other relevant bodies to ensure its growth,” he added.
The chairman attended the event alongside key government officials, including the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Oloko Bright; Secretary to the Local Government, Zino Sofia; and the Supervising Councillor for Community and Social Development, Mrs. Alex Beauty.
