Isoko North Chairman Bans Scavengers, Calls for Unity and Gratitude at Thanksgiving
OZORO/Nigeria: The Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, on Wednesday, led the local government political class and council staff to an end-of-year thanksgiving service at the council’s chapel in Ozoro. The event was held to express gratitude to God for divine protection and miraculous deeds throughout 2024.
Drawing from Psalm 100:1-5, Ogorugba emphasized the significance of cultivating a habit of thanksgiving regardless of one’s circumstances, stating that gratitude to God ensures preservation and multiplies blessings. Echoing this sentiment, the council’s Vice Chairman, Evelyn Aluta, read from Psalm 103:1-5 and encouraged Christians to make appreciation to God a cornerstone of their lives.
The guest speaker, Pastor Raphael Asote, in his sermon titled “The Necessities of Thanksgiving,” anchored on 1 Thessalonians 5:18, underscored the importance of gratitude as a divine expectation for all.
In a separate development, Chairman Ogorugba announced a ban on the activities of scavengers, commonly known as “Iron Condemn,” within the local government area. Speaking during a security meeting attended by traditional rulers, presidents-general, and heads of security agencies, he expressed concern over the rising criminal activities linked to scavengers, including kidnapping, armed robbery, drug sales, and vandalism.
“These scavengers pose a significant threat to the lives and property of Isoko North people,” Ogorugba stated. “The council has resolved to give them 20 days to vacate the local government area.”
The chairman urged residents who had rented or leased their lands to scavengers to ensure compliance with the directive by December 22, 2024. He warned that any failure to adhere to the council’s order would result in security agencies enforcing the evacuation and the council taking over such lands as government property.
“We cannot allow their activities to destroy our livelihoods, properties, and endanger our lives. They must leave,” Ogorugba declared.
The chairman also extended his gratitude to the residents of Isoko North for their continued support, promising to prioritize their welfare and align with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to enhance development across the local government.
