ASABA/Nigeria: The Integrity Group of Delta State has condemned former governor, Chief James Ibori, for his recent criticisms of the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, describing his remarks as “reckless vituperations.” The group, in a press statement signed by Dr. Oke Idawene, Convener, Comrade Liliveth Ogochukwu, Publicity Secretary, and Hon. Bath Ozah, Director of Media and Communications, expressed dismay over Ibori’s comments, asserting that Governor Oborevwori is firmly in charge of affairs in the state.
The ex-governor had questioned the competence of the Oborevwori administration during a public ceremony in Asaba, the Delta state capital, where he criticized both the governor and members of his cabinet.
Dismissing Ibori’s claims as baseless, the Integrity Group accused him of being bitter and pained since Oborevwori defeated his preferred candidate, Olorogun David Edevbie, in the 2023 Delta governorship elections. The group highlighted that Ibori had supported Edevbie while Governor Ifeanyi Okowa backed Oborevwori in the PDP primary, which Oborevwori won decisively.
The group further criticized Ibori’s conduct during and after the elections, pointing out that despite his exalted office as governor, Ibori did not work or vote for Oborevwori, supporting Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC instead. Despite Ibori’s alleged attempts to thwart Oborevwori’s candidacy, the governor emerged victorious, winning the state governorship elections with a significant margin.
Regarding Ibori’s reservations about the State Executive Council, the Integrity Group stated that his criticisms were unfounded, noting that the cabinet comprises seasoned technocrats, experienced hands, and sharp, enterprising youths. They emphasized that Governor Oborevwori has achieved much in less than a year in office, providing social infrastructure to the delight of Deltans.
In conclusion, the Integrity Group advised Ibori to “bridle his tongue,” suggesting that his attacks on the Oborevwori administration stemmed from selfish and egotistic motives rather than genuine concerns for the state. They asserted that Governor Oborevwori’s tenure is ordained by God, and urged Ibori to accept this reality.
