ASABA/Nigeria: The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta State, Pastor Monday Udoh Tom, has urge political actors in ongoing Peoples Democratic Party primaries, to pay attention to changes in the electoral process occasioned by the Electoral Act 2022.

Mr. Udoh-Tom gave the reminder during a tour of voting activities in Ika North East, Ethiope West, Sapele and Oshimilli South centers, where elections were being conducted for the State House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner highlighted Section 84, sub section 9, regarding the process of writing to notify INEC concerning the adoption of a consensus candidate.

The political party that adopts the consensus candidate shall secure the written consent of all aspirants for the position indicating their voluntary withdrawal from the race and their endorsement of the consensus candidate.

“In other words, if any other person has bought a form, we need that person to write that he/she has voluntarily stepped down.”

Pastor Monday Tom, also remarked that only ad hoc delegates would be allowed to participate at the primaries contrary to speculations about the signing of the Electoral Act amendment by President Mohammadu Buhari.

The Commissioner and his team are currently monitoring the PDP primaries for the senatorial positions in Delta Central and Delta North districts of the state.
