PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Ltd has reiterated its commitment to effective environmental management as a core aspect of its operation, affirming its dedication to achieving a zero harm, safe, and healthy environment.
Speaking to journalists over the weekend after a tour of its facility at the corporate headquarters in Eleme, Rivers, Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Jossy Nkwocha, emphasized the company’s unwavering stance on environmental stewardship.
Nkwocha highlighted, “We have painstakingly shown you during the facility tour and the detailed presentation on our environmental management system that we are a responsible corporate entity committed to the goal of zero harm, safe, and healthy environment.”
He further explained, “We have been able to achieve this milestone by making an effective environment management system an integral part of our operations.” He also stressed the company’s commitment to continual improvement in environmental systems and performance.
Despite these assurances, Nkwocha condemned what he described as attempts by certain individuals to disparage the company, alleging negligence in environmental safety and corporate social responsibility to host communities.
He clarified, “The company had remained committed to the federal government and host communities by ensuring a 7.5 equity for its host,” adding that the company had funded various programs and projects to improve the living standards of host communities.
Nkwocha underscored the company’s compliance with all applicable national and state environmental regulations and international best practices, noting the implementation of various strategic environmental management systems.
He emphasized that the company conducts regular monitoring of noise, ambient air quality, stack emissions, treated effluent quality, groundwater quality, recipient water body (Okulu River) quality, and biodiversity in collaboration with accredited consultants.
