Hon. Akande-Sadipe Pledges to Strengthen Representation for Oluyole Constituency

OLUYOLE/Nigeria: Honourable Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, the Member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has reassured her constituents of her unwavering commitment to effective and responsive representation.

As the only female lawmaker from Oyo State, Akande-Sadipe emphasised her dedication to transforming public service and enhancing infrastructure, education, and healthcare across her constituency.

Akande-Sadipe, who also chairs the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, reflected on her tenure during a recent town hall meeting in Ibadan, organised in collaboration with UN Women, the Canadian Government, and Nigeria’s National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS). Themed “Enhancing Women Political Representation: Female Legislators Constituency Outreach in Nigeria,” the event provided her with an opportunity to report on her achievements since taking office.

Determined to uplift her constituency, Akande-Sadipe has overseen numerous projects, including the provision of electricity transformers, solar energy panels, boreholes, and the construction of schools and health centres. Her contributions to the community also include the distribution of vehicles and motorcycles to support local businesses, scholarship awards for underprivileged students, and free health services that have benefitted hundreds.

Reflecting on her accomplishments despite ongoing election litigations, she said, “It has indeed been a trying period for me, but as the Trustee of the People’s sacred mandate, I continuously keep the hope of the people alive by fulfilling the promises I made during the campaign.”

Akande-Sadipe’s efforts have extended to the construction and rehabilitation of over seven major roads in Oluyole, with a notable focus on the Olomi-Olojuoro road, which she described as essential for the community’s potential as a manufacturing hub. Following her intervention, the federal government has allocated resources to a reputable contractor to address the road’s longstanding infrastructure gaps.

On her legislative achievements, she noted, “I have sponsored several bills and motions spanning various sectors, from healthcare to infrastructure, aimed at reducing the cost of governance and improving the lives of my constituents.”

The lawmaker also addressed the broader issue of gender disparity in Nigerian politics, lamenting that women currently make up less than 10% of the National Assembly. She appealed to the nation to amplify women’s voices, emphasising their critical role in shaping the country’s future and advocating for gender equality in decision-making.

In his remarks, Dr Ganiyu Ejalonibu of NILDS underscored the importance of the Female Legislators Constituency Outreach, which advocates for legislative and constitutional reforms to enhance women’s political participation. “With support from UN Women, we continue to push for equality in political representation and encourage political parties and governments to empower women across the board,” he said.

Community leaders and constituents voiced strong support for Akande-Sadipe’s work. The Baale of Olomi, Chief Oyewale, commended her commitment, particularly in her intervention in the Olomi-Olojuoro road project, stating, “Her actions will undoubtedly save lives and ease the suffering of many residents.”

Local APC leaders, including Acting State Chairman Alhaji Moshood Abass, also praised her as a “rare breed” politician, noting her dedication to empowering communities and fostering meaningful development.

The town hall, attended by representatives from all wards in Oluyole, traditional and community leaders, and other stakeholders, underscored the widespread support and appreciation for Akande-Sadipe’s efforts in transforming her constituency.
