HERDSMEN ATTACK: DTSG Gives Out Cheques to Victims of Uwheru Herdsmen Attack

UGHELLI/Nigeria: The Delta State Government said it will continue to ensure the security and well-being of the citizen’s of the state is not compromised.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Chiedu Ebie made this known when he presented cheques to the next-of-kin of victims of the Uwheru Fulani herdsmen attack at the palace of the Ovie of Uwheru.
Mr Ebie said that the state government was desirous of improving the security in the state, saying it partnered with the Nigeria Police Force to host the South-South Regional Security Summit to tackle the security challenges being experienced by the states in the region.
He said the governors in the South-South Region took a decision to strengthen the BRACED Commission and mandated it to set up a regional security outfit which he said would bring peace and security to the region.
Mr Ebie said that the state government commiserated with the people of Uwheru for the lives that were lost during the herdsmen attack while stating that the government would support them to overcome the grief they went through.
In addition he also said that the government would support the children of the victims by setting up an education endowment fund with ten million naira which noted would cater for their educational needs while calling on Deltans to support the endowment fund.
The SSG also said the government out of its magnanimity also provided financial relief to each of the next-of-kin of the deceased and one of the persons that survived the attack.
Earlier the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Patrick Muoboghare who spoke on behalf of the community, thanked the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for identifying with the community in their time of grief.
The commissioner stated that they were overwhelmed by the state government’s gesture towards supporting the victims of the attack.
He promised that the community would ensure that the seed fund provided by the government for the education endowment fund was judiciously utilized for the purpose for which it was set up.
Speaking on behalf of the monarch, Agbaovwe Afugbeya Oyise 11 of Uwheru Kingdom, Chief Jabin Oyibokore, also expressed gratitude to Governor Okowa for the good gesture towards the community and urged the state government to make sure that its plan towards security in the state was executed.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of cheques to the next-of-kin to the victims of the attack by the SSG.
