Headforth Foundation Urges Women to Speak Out Against Gender-Based Violence

LAGOS/Nigeria: As the International community celebrated the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD), the Headforth Foundation took a bold step to address the pervasive issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by urging women in the country to speak out and get involved in programs aimed at social engineering.

The foundation’s call to action came during a workshop held to mark the IWD 2024 at Ketu market, a suburb of Lagos. Speaking at the event, Mauyon Amosu, Head of Legal for the foundation, passionately encouraged women to raise their voices against GBV and other forms of domestic violence.

Amosu emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts among women outside the police station, highlighting the need for women to engage in politics and other social events. She stressed that victims of domestic violence should speak up and seek help, noting that support services are available.

Furthermore, Amosu urged victims of domestic violence to leverage the services provided by the foundation and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to seek redress. She reminded women of their significance in society and the importance of supporting each other during crises.

Blessing Nyoyoko, a member of the Headforth foundation team, also addressed the attendees, providing valuable insights into the legal aspects of their businesses. Nyoyoko advised women to ensure that their businesses are registered and encouraged them to use the foundation’s services to interpret any business agreements before signing.

One of the workshop’s beneficiaries, Ms. Precious Chizoba, a trader, expressed gratitude for the valuable information she received. She highlighted the importance of keeping records of her business for potential loan offers.

The workshop, which was attended by about 60 women, served as a platform for empowering women to speak out against GBV and to equip them with the necessary knowledge to protect their businesses legally. Through such initiatives, the Headforth Foundation continues to make strides in advocating for women’s rights and empowerment.
