OGWASHI-UKU/Nigeria: The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, has condemned the harassment of students in Nigeria’s higher institutions, describing it as a national disaster.
Speaking during a chat with journalists in his office, Professor Achuenu emphasized the critical role students play in the educational system and called on staff to treat them with the respect they would afford their own children.
“Students are integral to the success of our educational system, and it is imperative that staff avoid victimizing them,” Achuenu stated. He stressed the importance of creating a conducive teaching and learning environment at the Polytechnic, noting that the institution aims to produce graduates who will become employers of labor rather than job seekers.
In his remarks, the Rector also urged students to stay away from cultism and other social vices that could jeopardize their academic goals. “Hard work does not kill; it makes one great. I encourage all our students to embrace this culture,” he advised.
Professor Achuenu further noted that a well-trained child is a blessing not only to their family but also to the nation as a whole, reiterating his commitment to fostering a safe and supportive academic environment at Delta State Polytechnic.
