Guwor Remembers Chief Clark’s Legacy in National Development

ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of elder statesman Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, describing the loss as deeply painful for him and many others.
In an emotional tribute delivered during the resumed plenary session of the House on Tuesday, Guwor hailed Clark as an iconic leader whose contributions to the Niger Delta and to Nigeria’s national development were immeasurable.
“It is with a heavy heart that I bring to your attention the demise of our renowned elder statesman and foremost National Leader, Chief (Dr.) Senator Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, CFR, CON,” Guwor said. “Chief Clark passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.”
Guwor went on to describe the late Clark as an “enigma and iconoclast” who was a steadfast advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta. He praised Clark for his relentless advocacy for environmental sustainability and his fearlessness in speaking truth to power.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker reflected on the remarkable journey of Clark’s life, from his days as a student leader to his distinguished public service career. Guwor emphasized that Clark’s unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and societal advancement was a beacon of hope for many.
The Speaker further acknowledged the pivotal role Clark played in shaping Nigeria’s narrative and fostering national unity, particularly during his tenure as the Federal Commissioner for Information. He stated that Clark’s wisdom, courage, and vision had inspired generations of Nigerians and that his legacy would continue to guide those striving for a better future.
Guwor extended his condolences to the entire Ijaw nation and noted the global outpouring of love and support for the Clark family during this difficult time.
“May the soul of our beloved Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us to work towards a more just, equitable, and united Nigeria,” Guwor concluded.
Chief Clark passed away at the age of 97 on the night of Monday, February 10, 2025, in Abuja.
