ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to positively impact the lives of Delta State residents, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Speaker of the 8th Assembly, has affirmed the House’s unwavering commitment to advancing bills and resolutions.
Speaking during a meeting with the Executive of the Delta State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Chairman Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Guwor emphasises the importance of collaboration with the media in realizing the House’s vision, mission, and agenda.
The Speaker urges the media, particularly the NUJ, to continue supporting the State legislature, underscoring the vital role of accurate and balanced reporting in articulating the activities of the 8th Assembly. Guwor, accompanied by principal officers of the House, encourages NUJ members to uphold professional integrity in their reporting.
Describing journalists as indispensable partners in progress, Guwor acknowledges the significant role played by the press in disseminating information about the State legislature. He assures that the 8th Assembly aims to maintain the vibrancy for which it is known, building on the legacy of previous Assemblies.
Amid the growing insecurity in various states, Speaker Guwor reveals that the Delta State Assembly is collaborating with other arms of government to address the issue within the State. He commends the proactive stance of State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and assures that measures are in place to counter any potential threats posed by criminally-minded individuals.
“In the area of peace and security, let me assure you that the State Governor is already on top of it. Deltans should be calm because your fears are already taken care of,” Guwor emphasizes.
Earlier, NUJ Chairman Comrade Churchill Oyowe congratulated Speaker Guwor on his emergence and expressed concerns over the rising insecurity in the country. Oyowe called on the State legislature to collaborate with the executive to prevent any breach in the peace and security of Delta State.
The NUJ boss also commended Speaker Guwor for his leadership qualities and expressed gratitude for the appointment of Comrade Nkem Nwaeke as Chief Press Secretary. He assured the Assembly of robust collaboration with the NUJ.
In a separate meeting with the Executive of the Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Speaker Guwor commended women journalists for their efforts in shaping a better society. He congratulated the State for producing the Vice President and Secretary of Zone ‘F’ of the Union and pledged continued partnership with NAWOJ.
The State NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo, presented the Union’s vision to the Speaker, seeking collaboration with the Delta State Assembly.
