Guarding Unity; Okowa’s Resilience Amid Political Undercurrents (OPINION)

By Jude Bruno
The evolving political climate in Ika and, by extension, Delta North Senatorial District is far from a natural progression of events. What we are witnessing is not accidental but a well choreographed sequence of political maneuvers through falsehood and hatred, layered with intentions that only the discerning can fully interpret. At the core of these emerging patterns is an unsettling attempt to enslave by dismantling the longstanding unity that has held the people of Ika and Anioma together through decades of collective progress.
The methods employed by those driving this agenda are anything but subtle. From coded political language to high profile declarations and defections, the message is clear; a calculated effort is underway to diminish the stature and influence of Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. These actors, perhaps emboldened by temporary political gains, had imagined that Dr Okowa’s relevance would fade after the 2023 general elections. But time has ultimately proven them wrong.
Rather than retaliate or descend into the political mudslinging that often characterizes such attacks, Chief EKWUEME has chosen the more difficult but nobler path. He has continued to rise above petty politics, focusing instead on healing the wounds of past betrayals and reinforcing the call for unity across Anioma. His words and actions have demonstrated a rare kind of leadership. A leadership that places the collective interest of the people above self or political pride.
This is because Dr. Okowa’s political capital does not rest on noise or media optics. It is rooted in a deep, people-centered bequest. His years in public service, first as a commissioner in three different ministries, secretary to Delta State government, then as a senator, governor, and now a national figure, have been marked by tangible developmental strides, inclusive policies, and a level of accessibility that few leaders maintain. These attributes have earned him not just supporters, but followers who can point to real progress in their communities as a result of his leadership.
Attempts to weaken or erase his political influence through renumerative media campaign of calumny, orchestrated defections, or rhetorical posturing will ultimately collapse under the weight of reality. The people of Delta know where they stood yesterday, and they know who stood with them. They understand the value of loyalty, consistency, and delivery, qualities that Dr Okowa has shown in abundance throughout his professional and political career.
True leadership is not judged by fleeting applause. It is measured by trust, impactful legacy, and the ability to rise above discord in the interest of unity. It is about standing firm when it would be easier to bend, and serving even when others choose to stand aloof. In this, Dr Okowa continues to shine.
At the end of the day, the truth has a way of enduring beyond the fog of propaganda. Time will judge all, and history will draw the clear lines between those who sought to divide for gain and those who chose to unify for progress.
Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa will be remembered not just as a politician, but as a statesman, one who remained calm in the storm, consistent in purpose, and committed to the unity and advancement of Ika, Anioma, and Delta State as a whole.
