In a significant push for grassroots sports development, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has completed the construction of a . The facility, which boasts a state-of-the-art football pitch, a seven-a-side multi-sports pitch, pavilions, and fully equipped dressing rooms, is expected to serve as a major hub for young athletes and sports enthusiasts in the region.
Senator Nwoko, a strong advocate for youth empowerment through sports, has consistently championed initiatives aimed at harnessing young talents. His commitment to sports development is evident in the establishment of Nigeria’s first Sports University, located in his hometown, Idumuje-Ugboko. Now in its second academic session, the institution provides student-athletes with the opportunity to pursue higher education while excelling in sports.
Speaking on the significance of the new stadium, Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to the Senator, highlighted the lawmaker’s vision for early talent development. “Senator Nwoko believes in catching them young. His vision is to develop athletes from an early stage rather than relying on last-minute preparations before national and international competitions,” he said. The facility is expected to provide an avenue for nurturing future sports stars while offering a platform for established athletes to continue their education.
The site of the stadium was initially earmarked for a local government sports complex in a previous administration but had been abandoned for years. Senator Nwoko’s intervention has now revitalized the project, turning it into a modern sports facility that will attract talent from across the region and beyond.
With the completion of the mini stadium, Delta North is poised to witness a new era of sports excellence and economic opportunities. The project underscores Senator Nwoko’s unwavering commitment to youth development, grassroots sports, and community advancement.
