Governor Oborevwori Urges Optimism Amid Economic Challenges on Independence Anniversary

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to maintain their optimism in the face of the current economic difficulties facing the nation. During an inter-denominational thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of St. Peters in Asaba, held to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, he reassured citizens that resilience is key to overcoming adversity.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the struggles many are experiencing due to inflation and the rising cost of living. “It is undeniable that hunger and despair are prevalent,” he stated. “However, I firmly believe that these challenges, like all others, will eventually pass.”

He urged citizens to adopt a positive outlook, quoting the adage that “tough times don’t last, but tough people do.” He stressed that creativity, determination, and resilience are essential qualities needed to navigate the turbulent economic landscape.

The Governor paid tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers, emphasising the importance of hope and unity. “A new era of prosperity, peace, and progress is on the horizon,” he asserted, encouraging all Nigerians to remain steadfast in their prayers for the nation’s wellbeing.

Oborevwori elaborated on the need for positive discourse, stating, “We must refrain from speaking negatively about our country. Our words can either uplift or hinder our prayers for peace and unity. When we commit to speaking positively, we can expect remarkable outcomes.”

In response to remarks made by the Bishop of Asaba, Rt. Rev’d Kingsley Obuh, regarding the quality of public works, the Governor expressed his commitment to holding contractors accountable for substandard projects. “I will not tolerate poor workmanship,” he insisted, reinforcing his dedication to quality service delivery.

He revealed plans to improve oversight within the state’s public service, stating, “I will soon establish a hotline for the public to report issues directly to me.” Additionally, he pledged to ensure timely payment of civil servants, aiming for salaries to be disbursed on or before the 26th of each month.

Earlier in the service, Bishop Obuh had acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerians but encouraged the congregation to express gratitude, as he stressed, “It is the will of God for all men.”

Governor Oborevwori’s address served as a poignant reminder of the resilience required to navigate the current economic climate, urging all Nigerians to remain hopeful and united.
