Governor Oborevwori Signals Readiness for New Minimum Wage Implementation
ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced on Tuesday that the state government is currently awaiting the enabling chart necessary for the implementation of the new minimum wage.
He made this statement during a retirement thanksgiving ceremony for the immediate past Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs. Lyna Ocholor, who is now the Principal Secretary to the Governor.
While addressing staff of the State House of Assembly, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of careful planning to avoid mistakes in the wage implementation process. “We are waiting for the chart of the new minimum wage because we don’t want to make any mistakes,” he said.
The governor took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Assembly staff for their unwavering support throughout his tenure as Speaker of the 6th and 7th Assemblies. He noted, “I am very happy to be in your midst today. It is also an opportunity to appreciate the staff of this Assembly.”
Reflecting on his experience as Speaker, Oborevwori recalled the challenges he faced upon assuming office on May 11, 2017, stating that it was a tough period. He proudly mentioned that, during his six years in office, there were no strikes from staff, including members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN).
He urged the staff to uphold professionalism in their roles as civil servants, saying, “What I want to say is that anywhere you are working, be good. Anything you are doing, be good. As a Civil or Public Servant, you must do what you will be remembered for.”
Governor Oborevwori praised Mrs. Ocholor as one of the outstanding Clerks in the state and thanked the Assembly staff for their support in her accomplishments. He urged them to continue providing the same level of support to the current Speaker and other principal officers of the Assembly.
“The House of Assembly is a learning curve. You cannot pass through this place and remain the same. My prayer is that all of us will end well in Jesus’ name,” he added.
The governor concluded his remarks by expressing his appreciation for the peaceful collaboration between the legislative and executive branches of the government, recognizing the importance of synergy in achieving the state’s goals.
