Governor Oborevwori Reaffirms Commitment to Delta State Security …. Acknowledges Isolated Challenges
ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, asserting that the state remains peaceful despite isolated security challenges.
Addressing the State Executive of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) led by its Chairman, Bishop Kingsley Enakhireri, during a courtesy visit to Government House in Asaba on Wednesday, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the primary purpose of government is to ensure security and welfare.
“On the issue of security, we are doing our best,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “Section 14(2b) of the 1999 Constitution states that ‘the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government,’ and we are upholding this. We want to assure Deltans that this is just a phase and it will pass. Continue to pray for us while we continue to serve the people.”
Governor Oborevwori thanked the PFN for their support and prayers, acknowledging God’s faithfulness in answering prayers concerning the state. He assured that he would continue to be a governor for all Deltans.
In response to the ongoing national protests, Governor Oborevwori praised the PFN and other religious and cultural leaders for maintaining peace in the state. He criticized opposition attempts to claim credit for the peaceful nature of the protests.
“I want to thank the PFN for the role it played during these trying times of national protest. The state is peaceful because our fathers of faith prayed and we all resolved that we do not need a crisis in Delta State. Today is the seventh day of the protest, and you can see the state is peaceful. People are going about their normal business,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori also addressed remarks made by some individuals claiming responsibility for the peaceful protests. “I was watching a TV station where someone said they were responsible for the peaceful atmosphere in Delta State during this period of national protest. How? When people talk sometimes, they talk out of ignorance. Our fathers of faith prayed, and I have stayed in the state to monitor the protest. The Civil Society organizations and other groups understood that protesting might lead to hijacking by others, so they decided not to protest. We return the glory to God Almighty.”
On the recent passing of Olorogun Taleb Tebite, Executive Director Projects on the board of the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Governor Oborevwori expressed his condolences. “We did our best to support him during his health challenge, but we cannot question God. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
Earlier, Bishop Enakhireri pledged the PFN’s unwavering support for Governor Oborevwori’s administration and commended his leadership, particularly during the ongoing national protests. He also thanked the state government for contributing to the completion of the PFN Secretariat in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area, and invited the governor to their upcoming Annual Prayer and Thanksgiving on August 22.
