Governor Oborevwori Prioritises Road Rehabilitation Across Delta, Says Orientation Bureau DG
ASABA/Nigeria: The Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has reassured residents that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads across all local government areas in the state, including Sapele.
In a statement addressing the recent arrest of a man in Sapele, who garnered attention by bathing in floodwater to protest poor road conditions, Dr Oghenesivbe criticised the act, urging citizens to consider the health risks of such actions. He acknowledged the right of citizens to demand government intervention but cautioned against extreme measures that could lead to serious health consequences.
“While it is within the rights of the people to call for government action when infrastructure deteriorates, exposing oneself to health hazards by bathing in contaminated road water is ill-advised and should not be encouraged by any right-thinking individual,” Dr Oghenesivbe said.
He pointed out that Governor Oborevwori has recently approved the rehabilitation of over 15 kilometres of internal roads in Sapele, including the reconstruction of Orhorhor Road and Benjamin Aboneje Road, formerly known as Hardock Road. He added that plans are in place for the reconstruction of Okirighwre-Benin Road and other critical routes in the area.
Dr Oghenesivbe listed additional roads earmarked for reconstruction in Sapele, such as the expansion of Shell Road, as well as improvements to Eseimoni Street, Major Brown Road, and Benin Road by GKS. He assured residents that unmotorable roads would be addressed in phases, with other local government areas also receiving attention in line with the governor’s development agenda.
Reflecting on the previous administration, Dr Oghenesivbe noted that during Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s tenure, significant road projects were completed in Sapele, including Edegbrode/Eleme Road, Sapele/Warri Road, Amukpe Roundabout, and others that helped improve the town’s infrastructure.
“The current administration under Governor Oborevwori is building on these achievements. His efforts have been commended by residents across Delta State, regardless of political affiliation,” Dr Oghenesivbe said, adding that constructive criticism from the opposition would help propel development beyond 2027.
On the arrest of the man involved in the viral video, Dr Oghenesivbe clarified that the governor was not involved, suggesting that law enforcement may have acted based on concerns over a possible suicide attempt. He urged citizens to engage in more responsible forms of protest, noting that the governor is working tirelessly to address infrastructure challenges across the state.
“The MORE Agenda will reach all three senatorial districts, and Governor Oborevwori is fully committed to advancing Delta. It is only fair that we work together to bring about the development our state deserves,” he concluded.
