Governor Oborevwori Committed to Delivering Quality Road Projects Across Delta, Says Commissioner

WARRI/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to delivering high-quality road projects across the state.

Speaking during an unscheduled inspection of road projects in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas on Tuesday, Izeze emphasized that the governor is determined to ensure that Deltans receive value for every naira spent on infrastructure development.

The Commissioner inspected key projects, including Central Hospital Road in Warri, Edo Guest House Road in Ekpan, Ogbetuo Avenue in Effurun, and the rehabilitation of Bright Hope Street with spurs to Okiemute Street and Senator James Manager Street, among others.

During the inspection, Izeze expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of the work done by the contractors. He commended their adherence to specifications outlined in the Bills of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) and praised Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering focus on revamping Warri and its environs.

“I am very satisfied with the work being done at the sites we visited,” Izeze said. “These visits were not scheduled, and the contractors were unaware. We wanted to ensure that work was progressing as expected without prior notice.”

“At Central Hospital Road, for instance, the drains are being extended to discharge water into the natural waterways, and the contractor is on-site, working as per specifications.”

Izeze noted that while the contractor at Ogbetuo Avenue was not physically on-site during the visit, significant progress had been made, with the binder course already laid, awaiting the final finishing. He affirmed that the quality of work was up to standard.

On the inspection of Bright Hope Street and its spurs, Izeze explained that his visit was critical since the contractor had raised a final certificate for the project. “As part of Governor Oborevwori’s directive, any job requiring certification must involve my physical presence to ensure that government is getting full value for money spent,” he said.

The Commissioner underscored the importance of supervision, stating, “Governor Oborevwori insists on strict supervision and management of all projects. Contractors, being capitalists, will aim for the highest profit. It’s our job to ensure that they deliver quality work that meets the state’s standards.”

At Uti Road in Effurun, Izeze was pleased with the contractor’s progress, noting that sand filling and excavation were being done according to the specified measurements. He expressed optimism that once the rains subside, the road would be completed and inaugurated, providing much-needed relief to residents in the area.

Regarding the completed Edo Guest House Road project in Ekpan, Izeze commended the contractor’s efforts and shared the residents’ appreciation for the governor’s commitment to the project. “The residents are overjoyed, and it’s moments like these that highlight the true essence of governance—bringing development to the people’s doorstep and putting smiles on their faces,” Izeze remarked.

He concluded by emphasizing that Governor Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on public service and infrastructure development, ensuring that all parts of Delta State benefit from quality road projects.
