Governor Fubara Urges Reflection on Political Power Impact on Society
PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has posed a poignant question to the political class, questioning the significance of the relentless pursuit of power when it fails to translate into positive societal impact.
Speaking at the funeral service for Late Herbert, his wife, Chizoba, and son, Chizi, at the Lion of Judah Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo Town, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Governor Fubara challenged political leaders to ponder the essence of their endeavours.
“Here is a man, though not a politician, he made his money through our investments. He had the world in his palm financially. He even controlled the political class. This takes me to my question to the political class. What is all this struggle all about? You want to kill and bury, to what end?” Governor Fubara questioned.
Emphasizing the fleeting nature of power and wealth, he highlighted the sobering reality of mortality, urging introspection within the corridors of political influence.
“In immortalising the deceased, the state government will work with Herbert Wigwe Foundation to ensure that the Wigwe University is sustained in accordance with the dreams of Herbert Wigwe,” Governor Fubara affirmed, underscoring the commitment to honor the legacy of impactful individuals.
The funeral proceedings, attended by dignitaries including Nigeria Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, underscored the collective mourning of an iconic figure whose life exemplified significant contributions to society.
Vice Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Rivers State, Pastor Adesoji Oni, delivered a poignant sermon, urging all to contemplate the inevitability of eternity.
As the nation bids farewell to Herbert Wigwe, Governor Fubara’s call for introspection resonates, echoing the imperative for political stewardship to prioritize meaningful societal transformation over the pursuit of ephemeral power.
