Foundation Empowers Foundation Empowers Widows, Indigent Women In Delta Community

OYEDE/Nigeria: Widows and indigent women of Oyede and Owodokpokpo,  a community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, were all in a joyful mood as a Lagos-based non-governmental organisation, Tender Hearts Foundation (THF), on Tuesday 13, December 2022, through its “Face of Giving” programme, empowered over 200 of them.

Presenting the empowerment items – 50 pepper grinding machines, over 200 wrappers, and foodstuffs to the beneficiaries at Owodokpokpo, THF’s founder, Lady Sally Othihiwa said, “The empowerment scheme is part of the foundation’s sustainable social services to humanity, especially the underprivileged women and young girls, to mark this year’s Face of Giving.”

Continuing, the renowned philanthropist said that over the years, Tender Hearts Foundation had been committed to improving the livelihood of less privileged women, saying, “Today’s event is one of the positive ways we give succour to the needy, and contribute positively to the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 2, which seek sustainable solutions to end poverty and hunger in all forms by 2030.”

Expatiating on the activities of THF in recent years, Lady Sally said, “our Foundation has sustained its commitment to improving the wellbeing of women through impactful programmes such as skills acquisition schemes, supporting the economic growth of women, including Youth Engagement and Inclusion Programmes, Health Outreach Programmes, and distribution of palliatives to widows to cushion the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to Journalists, Lady Sally said, “Through the ‘Face of Giving’ programme, we have been able to put smile on the faces of widows and other less privileged women in our communities. I’m so glad that they can start with these little assistance they have received today and build up their financial lives.”

She continued, “In line with the goals of our Foundation, we shall be haveing other phases of empowerment programmes to improve the livelihood of widows and other less privileged women in our society.”

On her unwavering commitment to uplifting the standard of the needy, Lady Sally said that her passion for humanitarian services was honed during her growing up years, stating that the passion was catalysed in her line of duty as one-time President of a female fellowship which acquainted her with the challenges the vulnerable class in the society contend with everyday.

She continued, “Having knowledge of the compelling needs of the vulnerable persons in our society, l made a promise to give help to the needy whenever l have the resources  to make a little change in their lives.”

She added that the founding of the Tender Hearts Foundation was inspired by her unquenchable zeal to make our society a better place for all.

She said, “On that note, our Foundation is working relentlessly to put a smile on the face of the needy with scores of impactful programmes we shall be executing in 2023″.

She added, “In keeping with our Foundation’s commitment to promoting a sustainable society without poverty and hunger, we have scaled up our skills acquisition programmes, giving funds to women to grow their businesses, sponsoring Youth Engagement and Inclusion Programmes, Health Outreach Programmes, distribution of Palliatives to Widows to cushion the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.”

Continuing, she called on the government, multi-national organisations, and good-spirited individuals to commit to giving humanitarian assistance to the needy in society, stating that through collaboration, more indigent persons would be supported to lead a comfortable and healthy life.

“Giving succour to the needy is a creed our organisation jealously upholds,” she stated.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Tender Hearts Foundation for the empowerment items. Mrs. Queen Ajose, who articulated the feelings of the beneficiaries, said the Foundation has given them hope to survive the harsh economic climate in the country, assuring that they will put the pepper grinding machine to good use and bring economic fortunes to their families and also make the Foundation proud.

Tender Hearts Foundation is a community-based organization founded in 2018 and taking the lead in promoting the welfare and rights of widows and indigent women in Nigeria.

Among the dignitaries at the event were Sir Ayodele Oghogho Othihiwa, husband of the Founder of Tender Hearts Foundation; Queen of Ozoro Kingdom and founder of Achievers Mission Foundation; Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on youth matters, Hon. Godday Awhoregba, Owodokpokpo community leader; representatives of the President General of Ozoro kingdom; youths and other distinguished personalities.
