FIRE OUTBREAKS: Commissioner Harps on Appropriate Handling of Electrical Appliances
WARRI/Nigeria: The Delta State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has reiterated the need for the appropriate handling of electrical appliances in our homes to mitigate incidences of fire occurrences.
The Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Omamofe Pirah, made the call when he visited a story building in Ekurede-Itsekiri axis of Warri, in Warri South Local Government Area gutted by fire last Saturday for an on-the-spot assessment.
Preliminary investigations showed that the building of six flats belonging to one late Mr Suleman Abubakar went ablaze after an electric surge with the inferno consuming everything in the process but no life was lost.
Addressing the victims, Hon. pirah who was represented by the Director, SEMA, Mr Karo Ovemeso, sympathized with the victims of the fire for there losses, but cautioned on the need for residents to always turn off electrical appliances before they left their houses and keep such home appliances out of the reach of minors.
The commissioner, who assured the victims of government’s prompt intervention to ameliorate their losses, reiterated the commitment of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to make life better for Deltans despite the biting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
Earlier, the landlady of the premises, Mrs Ashumawa Abubakar who spoke for other victims, appealed for the intervention of the state government, lamenting that they have lost their life support to the fire outbreak.
