Fed Ministry of Agric Distributes Disinfectants to Check Swine Fever in Pigs

ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to control animal disease across the country, the Federal Government, through the Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services and the Delta State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has distributed 20 litres each of disinfectants to pig farms in Delta State.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Sir Austin Oghoro made the distribution to some farmers in Asaba.

Sir Oghoro, while presenting the disinfectants, said that the gesture came at a time when the state government was doing a lot to revitalize livestock industry.

During the presentations of the 20 litres of Quaternary Ammonium Compound and Virocid to 10 pig farmers in Delta State at the premises of the ministry, Sir Oghoro said that it was an effort to ensure bio-security measures in pig farm across the nation, especially against the threat of highly fatal Africa swine fever, a disease of pigs.

According to the permanent secretary, the disinfectants, a broad spectrum with high efficacy, would serve as treatments for the highly fatal Africa swine fever, even as he stated that the dilution process and usage for proper application on the pigs.

Amongst the beneficiaries were the owner of Holy Cross Monastery, Bro. Bartholomew Omelonye and the representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Gwenyenha Innocent of Atse Farm, Warri.

Present at the ceremony were the Director of Veterinary services, Dr Charles Diai and Director of Live Stock, Mr Julius Omunizua.
