Eze Chukwuemeka Eze Blames Nyesom Wike for Political Crisis in Rivers State
PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent APC chieftain and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party, has accused FCT Minister and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike of perpetuating the political turmoil in Rivers State. In a statement released on Tuesday, Eze criticized Wike’s actions, asserting they undermine Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s efforts and the rule of law.
Eze lamented that despite numerous interventions aimed at resolving the hostility, Wike’s continuous machinations distract Governor Fubara from governance. He accused Wike of using these tactics to portray Fubara as ineffective and gain sympathy from his supporters.
Wike, during a recent reception honoring Senator George Thompson Sekibo, publicly apologized for supporting Fubara’s gubernatorial candidacy, labeling it a mistake. “I have made a mistake. I own it up and I say God forgive me. I have said all of you forgive me. But we will correct it at the appropriate time,” Wike stated, vowing to provoke his detractors to make mistakes.
Eze responded by reminding Wike that the 27 former lawmakers who defected from their seats had lost them automatically as per the Nigerian Constitution. He criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not conducting fresh elections to fill these vacancies, attributing this failure to institutional weaknesses.
Highlighting the negative impact of Wike’s administration on Rivers State, Eze argued that the real error lies in Wike’s eight-year tenure, which he claimed impoverished the people and destroyed livelihoods. He contended that Governor Fubara’s leadership is a divine mission, and those opposing him would face divine consequences.
Eze also urged the Rivers State University to scrutinize former Commissioner for Special Duties, Zaccheaus Adangor, for his derogatory remarks against Governor Fubara on Channels TV, suggesting his reabsorption into the university’s faculty be reconsidered.
Finally, Eze praised President Tinubu for his neutrality in the Rivers State political crisis, urging Wike to respect the President’s stance. Tinubu, through his media assistant Ajuri Ngelale, stated he would not support any actions undermining the state government’s ability to govern effectively.
