Ewubare’s Return to NNPCL Will Drive Global Standards, Says Omo-Agege

ABUJA/Nigeria: Immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has applauded the appointment of Mr. Roland Ewubare as Group Chief Operating Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), describing it as a strategic and bold decision that could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector reform.
In a congratulatory statement signed by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, Senator Omo-Agege said Ewubare’s return to the NNPCL comes at a critical time when the company needs globally competitive leadership to reposition itself as a world-class energy giant.
According to Omo-Agege, Ewubare’s pedigree in the international oil industry, including his early career at Schlumberger in New York as Global Corporate Counsel after graduating from Harvard Law School, uniquely qualifies him for the role. He noted that Ewubare’s deep understanding of oil and gas law, coupled with practical industry experience, positions him to inject the kind of reform-driven leadership NNPCL currently requires.
“Mr. Ewubare is not new to the system. His first stint at the NNPC as Group General Manager of NAPIMS and later Chief Operating Officer for the Upstream and Ventures Directorates laid the foundation for transformational leadership,” Omo-Agege said. “Since then, his further exposure in the United States across different industries has only sharpened his corporate vision and strategic depth.”
The former Deputy Senate President said the Tinubu administration made the right call in bringing Ewubare back to the NNPCL fold, emphasizing that his grasp of global best practices and institutional knowledge of NNPC’s internal workings would be critical in driving the company’s new commercial mandate under the Petroleum Industry Act.
“I am very excited to have Mr. Ewubare back at NNPCL. He brings with him revolutionary ideas and initiatives at a time the President has empowered the company to run as a commercially viable entity. I commend President Tinubu for this bold vision, and I am confident that with Ewubare as part of the leadership team, the dream of a reformed and investment-friendly oil and gas sector will become a reality,” Omo-Agege stated.
