Etsako East Chairman Urges Support for PDP, Dismisses Defection Fears Ahead of Edo Governorship Election

BENIN-CITY/Nigeria: Ahead of Saturday’s Edo Governorship election, the Executive Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council, Hon. (Princess) Benedicta Attoh, has called on the people of the council to remain steadfast in their support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite the recent defection of Senator Francis Alimikhena to the opposition.

In a statement released by her Chief Press Secretary, Benjamin Atu, on Sunday, September 15, 2024, and made available to Ndokwa Reporters Online, Attoh encouraged residents to act as a “one-man liberation army” and ensure the election of a governor who can tackle the state’s pressing challenges.

Attoh highlighted the collective responsibility of the people to safeguard the future of Edo State by electing a leader who can establish an economic system that empowers citizens to shape their development. According to her, the PDP remains the only party capable of delivering such progress.

Addressing concerns about Senator Alimikhena’s defection, Attoh dismissed any fear of losing Etsako East, expressing confidence in PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and assuring the party’s victory.

“Power belongs to God, and I am fully confident of victory for the PDP this Saturday,” she stated. “Let no one be discouraged by the defection of Senator Alimikhena. Our candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has run a flawless campaign, and I am certain he will win.”

Responding to growing concerns over the defection, Attoh reaffirmed that the strength of Etsako East lies in the support of the masses, not in individual defections. “Elections are about numbers, not status. The majority of our people stand with us,” she emphasized.

Attoh also urged residents to reject the opposition, citing the hardship, insecurity, and economic instability that have plagued the country under the current administration. She emphasized that voting for capacity, rather than party politics, was essential.

“Asue Ighodalo is a leader who offers hope in this time of crisis. He is committed to guiding Edo through its economic challenges, creating jobs, and bringing prosperity to all,” the statement read.

Attoh further encouraged youths and women to come out and vote for Ighodalo, reaffirming her dedication to the PDP’s vision of building a better Edo State where the aspirations of all its people can be fulfilled.
