ISIOKOLO/Nigeria: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Ethiope East Local Government Area have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing him for re-election in 2027. This resolution was made during a meeting held on Thursday, with the leaders lauding the governor’s visionary leadership and transformative policies that have brought significant development to Delta State.
The resolution, signed by key party leaders, including Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo; Higher Education Commissioner, Prof. Nyerovwo Tonukari; State Director of Protocol, Rt. Hon. Sunny Akpodiogaga Emeyese; and Chief Bernard Edewor, among others, highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s focus on mega infrastructure projects, empowerment programs, and prudent management of state resources. The leaders commended the governor for fostering economic growth, peace, and security across the state.
In their collective statement, the Ethiope East PDP leaders urged party members and supporters to intensify their loyalty and commitment to the governor while dismissing recent defections as inconsequential. They emphasized that the party remains united and unshaken by the actions of those who have chosen to defect.
As part of their resolutions, the leaders directed the Local Government PDP Chairman, Hon. Iboyitete Midwest, to establish a disciplinary committee to address anti-party activities and a three-member advisory committee to guide the local party leadership. They also insisted that defectors who held party positions or appointments resign immediately or face replacement by their respective ward chairmen.
The leaders further called for equity in the representation of Ethiope Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives. Highlighting historical imbalances, they noted that Ethiope East, despite being the larger and more populous of the two local governments in the constituency, has only produced representatives for a total of eight years, compared to Ethiope West’s 20 years. They resolved that the 2027 federal constituency representative must emerge from Ethiope East for fairness and balance.
The resolution also reaffirmed the PDP’s dominance in Ethiope East, with party leaders pledging to maintain unity, peace, and focus as they prepare for future political activities. Signatories to the resolution included Hon. Chief Augustine Usinefe Ogedegbe, Executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government, and other prominent leaders, excos, ward chairmen, and ward leaders.
The Ethiope East PDP’s endorsement of Governor Oborevwori underscores the party’s confidence in his administration and sets the stage for continued support for his policies and second-term ambition.
