Egugbo Promises A New Dawn For NUJ, Delta State Council

NUJ Fidelis1Asaba: Comrade (Sir) Fidelis Egugbo has promised a new dawn in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council when he emerges as the Chairman of the Union.
Speaking shortly after obtaining the nomination form for aspirants for the chairmanship position of the union from Comrade Gabriel Awodegha,  Chairman of the Credentials Committee for the NUJ, Delta State Council elections, Comrade Egugbo stated that, while the incumbent chairman of the Union, Comrade Norbert Chiazor and his predecessors have contributed their best to improve on the status of the Union, his emergence would usher in new ideas that will reposition the NUJ, in line with the 21st century challenges.
According to him, “the collection of the nomination form has signaled a new dawn for our great Union, the NUJ; you can see that without being immodest, most of our colleagues declined to contest for the Chairmanship position because, they believe in our abilities to do it right in line with 21st century challenges.”NUJ Fidelis3
Comrade Egugbo said, “the greatest challenge in an elitist Union, like the NUJ, is to emerge unopposed because, you have to serve as if every member of the union would have contested against you and because, of the trust, they declined to contest.”
Comrade Egugbo thanked members of the union for their confidence that he will perform, stating, “I am humbled by the level of goodwill, the support from the members and non members of our great Union and by His grace, their trust will not be misplaced – there will be inter-chapel football tournament to boost unity among our people; monthly media chat which we shall call, ‘NUJ, Delta State Council hot seat’  where national issues will be discussed.”
“Also, there will be compulsory monthly meeting for us to be transparent and accountable to our members; naturally, there will be training and retraining of Journalists because, there will be no room for quackery in the union as a professionally recognized body,” Comrade Egugbo said, reiterating, “in all, we shall be prayerful and allow the will of God to prevail in whatever we are going to do, as we must carry relevant stakeholders along  as the conscience of the society.”
He expressed confidence in the ability of the Credentials Committee to conduct a free, fair and acceptable elections, urging aspirants for elective positions to avoid any action that will divide members of the Union or create unnecessary tension in the polity.
Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Comrade Gabriel Awodegha while presenting the form to Comrade Egugbo commended him for his confidence in his ability to lead members of the union which spurred him to collect the nomination form.
Comrade Comrade Okungbowa Aiwere of the Nation Newspaper, Comrade Patrick Nwanze of The Pointer Newspaper and the immediate past Chairman of The Pointer Chapel of the union, Comrade Peter Osuhor, in a chat, said they were not expecting any opposition to Comrade Egugbo’s emergence as the Chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Council, enthusiastically saying, “Comrade Egugbo is humble, with leadership traits which made us to encourage him to contest for the position, we believe in him, he will carry everyone along and make our Union active beyond expectations.”
Members of the union who accompanied him to pick the nomination form, include, the Chairman of the DBS Chapel of the union, Comrade Emeka Chukwujindu, Comrades Caroline Ubini, Sam Erhunwhense, Sam Duvwode, Okobi Benson,  Ann Ifiezeme, Maureen Oniovokoko, among other numerous  members of the NUJ, drawn from different Chapels.
