Education Officers Charged to Uphold Ethical Standards

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Chiedu Ebie has charged Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) and Examination Officers in charge of various certificate examinations organized by the Ministry to ensure that they continue to uphold sound examination ethics which has helped the state to maintain its position as one of the educationally advantaged state in the country.

The Commissioner made this known at a training session organised for Chief Inspectors of Education and Examination Officers in charge of cognitive/placement examination with the theme ‘Offline registration and processing for cognitive examination’ at the Association of Civil Servants Conference Hall, Asaba.

Mr Ebie said that the Ministry had taken some strategic steps to infuse computerization into the entire examination process, which he said Included online generation of test items and also checking of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and Cognitive/Placement results online and also the automation of termly results for students of all public schools in the state for easy access to their results.

According to the Commissioner, the effort was geared towards ensuring that accuracy and speed were attained towards the conduct of examinations in the state and called on the participants to take the training seriously saying it would help them to efficiently carry out their duties.

Earlier, the Director of Examinations in the Ministry, Dr Moses Bragiwa, said that the aim of the training was to train the participants on offline registration and processing for cognitive examinations to enable them go back and train Head Teachers in the various schools who were the end users for the process of registration of the cognitive/placement examination.

He said that the offline process would help to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in data collection in the course of collating data for the examination.
