By Magnus Emuji
UGHELLI/Nigeria: Delta State Government (DTSG) has warned secondary school students in the state to desist from unruly behaviours and other negative acts capable of jeopardising their future.
The State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu gave the warning while reacting to an incident at Ughelli Mixed Secondary School, Ughelli in Ughelli North Local Government Area where some students were alleged to have demonstrated unruly behaviour in the school shortly after writing one of the last papers for First Term Examinations.
Mrs. Ezewu, however, condemned the action of the students, who were reported to have thrown knock outs and other explosives into the school compound and wondered why the students embarked on such action.
She further stated that the teachers in the school acted in the right direction by asking the students to vacate the school premises apparently as a deliberate measure to avoid escalation of the incident.
Mrs. Ezewu frowned at the negative attitude of the students who later began to throw stones into the school and in the process damaged the glass of the Principal’s vehicle.
The Commissioner called on parents to always inculcate good moral values on their children, adding that something urgent needed to be done to tackle the menace of moral decadence among children of nowadays.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro has directed the Chief Inspector of Education (CIE) in charge of Ughelli North, Mrs. Eduvie to furnish the Ministry with a comprehensive report of the incident for necessary action.
