DTSG Trains Drivers On Capacity Building

ASABA/Nigeria: In order to have capable, healthy and well trained drivers in its workforce, the Delta State Government has commenced a 3-day capacity building workshop for drivers.
Delta State Commissioner for Transport Hon. Oviemuno Oghoore in his address during the opening ceremony stated that “drivers play key role in the effective service delivery in the public service.”
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Mrs. Ngozi Nwanze added that the 3 days training with its theme “safety driving and the Drivers’ Health was apt.
Oviemuno reiterated that the training was designed for Driver mechanics and work superintendents in the State Public Service with the intent to equip them with the nuances of modern day driving to ensure safety and be more effective and timely in service delivery.
In the same vein, the training was equally intended to address challenges that drivers may be faced with relating to their health, especially high blood pressure (BP), stress, sugar level amongst other challenges.
Oviemuno thanked the State Governor Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for his unflinching efforts at sustaining the human capital development i.e. training and re-training of the workforce.
In an interview, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport Mrs. Ngozi Nwanze advised the drivers to be attentive and be more productive at the end of the training.
The Director of Mechanical Engineering Services Engr. Hycenth Ojumah who coordinated the training, stated that the training would enhance the performances of the drivers, he added that “their health status would be revealed to them through the physical health exams that health professionals would carry out on them free of charges.”
The lectures included “causes of road traffic crashes and drivers roles in eliminating them as well as reducing casualty in crash scene” delivered by training officer of the FRSC Mr. Ekanem James.
Mr. Okotete Basil addressed general safety rules and vigours drivers were faced with on daily bases with other road users.
On behalf of other participants Mr. Earnest Obiagba thanked the State Governor and the Commissioner for Transport for the training.
