DTSG Lauds Yali for Ameliorating Plights of IDPs
ASABA/Nigeria: Members of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) in Delta State have been commended for ameliorating the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
The State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr Enerst Ogwezzy, gave the commendation at the Ogbe-Afor Primary School IDP camp when members of the group donated educational items such as school bags, notebooks, pen and pencils and other items to the IDPs as part of their ‘Back to School’ project.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Functioning Permanent Secretary in the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Karo Ovemeso, said that the state government had on good records the different efforts of members of YALI in the state geared towards a better society.
He gave the assurance that the state government would continue to partner with YALI and other well-meaning organization to achieve its SMART Agenda.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the group, Mr Austine Okorodudu, said that the ‘Back to School’ project was one of the ways YALI Delta was giving back to the society.
He said that the group was poised to changing the narrative of the African Child and that the outreach at the IDP camp was beyond the usual as the group also thought the kids on leadership, self-discovery, ICT and entrepreneurship with a view to repositioning their mindset beyond the environment they now find themselves.
Mr Okorodudu further reiterated the commitment of YALI to building a stronger and productive Africa.
Some of the Parents and Children expressed gratitude to YALI for the efforts.
