DTHA Speaker Promises Stronger Ties with Nigeria Bar Association
ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to foster closer ties between the Delta State Legislature and the legal community, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has engaged in a fruitful discussion with officials of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Warri Branch on Tuesday.
This happened when the members of NBA visited the Speaker in his office in Asaba. He assured the NBA officials of his commitment to facilitating stronger collaboration between the State Assembly and the legal body, emphasizing the importance of such partnerships in promoting peace and good governance in the state.
Highlighting the role of the NBA in the implementation and enforcement of laws enacted by the Assembly, Speaker Guwor stressed the need for continued cooperation to ensure that legislation is effectively interpreted and put into practice for the benefit of the public.
In furtherance of this goal, Speaker Guwor announced the establishment of the Assembly Committee on Legislative Compliance, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Author Akpowowo, to oversee the implementation of laws, motions, and resolutions passed by the House.
Notably, Guwor, who is also a final year law student, expressed his eagerness to join the NBA soon, underscoring his commitment to the legal profession. He disclosed that several members of the 8th Assembly, as well as key officials of the House, are already members of the association.
In response, Chairman of the NBA Warri Branch, Barr Oghenero Okoro, thanked Speaker Guwor for the audience granted to the association, emphasizing the need for closer collaboration between the House and the NBA during the lawmaking process.
Barr Okoro highlighted challenges faced by NBA members, including difficulties in accessing already passed laws in the state, and called for the support and collaboration of the House in addressing these issues.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts, signaling a renewed commitment to collaboration between the Delta State House of Assembly and the Nigeria Bar Association Warri Branch.
