DTHA Commits Community Security Corps Agency Bill For Final Deliberation
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly has received the report of the Joint Committee of special committee on bills and the House Committee on Peace and Security on a bill for a law to establish the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency, to assist in maintaining Law and order in Delta State and for other connected purposes.
Presenting the report on the floor of the house during plenary today at Asaba, the state capital, was the Chairman of the Joint Committee and Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tim Owhefere, member representing Isoko North Constituency.
According to the chairman, the importance of the bill to the state, prompted the joint committee to convened a meeting.
“The committee diligently worked on the bill and scrutinized it clause by clause from its long title to the last part. The committee also consulted with various stake holders in carrying out its assignment,” he stated.
Hon. Owhefere who drew the attention of members to the fact that the house was vested with powers to make laws for the peace, order and good government of Delta state, as provided for in section 4 (7) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
According to him, the Joint Committee in giving thorough analysis and scrutiny to the bill, consulted similar laws in other states bothering on the same subject matter to ensure the benefits of the bill in addressing cases of Insecurity in the state, adding that the committee had therefore reproduced the bill with proposed amendment attached as annexure.
Immediately after presenting the documents of the report on the floor of the house, the majority leader moved that the report be received by the house for further consideration and was seconded by Hon. Asupa Forteta, member representing Burutu I Constituency.
The Speaker Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori (JP) slated Committee of the whole House for final deliberation on the bill for Wednesday 22nd July, 2020.
