DOPF’s 2024 Lecture Series: Meet the Guest Discussants and Moderator

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) is set to host its highly anticipated 2024 Annual Lecture Series, under the theme: “Security Challenges: Finding a Local Implementable Solution.” This event promises to be a profound exploration of security issues and actionable strategies tailored to the unique challenges of the region.

A distinguished panel of discussants, encompassing experts from diverse fields such as journalism, peacebuilding, and academia, has been assembled to provide invaluable insights into addressing local security challenges.

Mr. Odita Sunday-Udemaguna, a veteran journalist and public relations strategist

One of the notable discussants is Mr. Odita Sunday-Udemaguna, a veteran journalist and public relations strategist. A native of Boji-Boji Owa in Delta State, Odita has carved out a distinguished career in defence and national security reporting over the past two decades. With extensive international exposure and a commitment to community leadership, his expertise promises to offer pragmatic solutions to the security challenges facing local communities.

Ambassador (Pastor) Edewor Egedegbe, an eminent advocate for ethical leadership and peacebuilding, will also lend his voice to the discussion. As the Founding Executive Director of the Value Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative, Egedegbe has played a significant role in governance advocacy and grassroots conflict prevention across the Niger Delta. His insights into sustainable and inclusive development are expected to enrich the dialogue.

Adding another dimension to the conversation is Bridget Dominion Foh Affiah, a peacebuilding expert and South-South Coordinator for the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP). With more than 18 years of experience in conflict resolution, community empowerment, and economic resilience, Affiah has successfully facilitated farmer-herder dialogues in Delta State. Her approach to integrating peacebuilding with economic and climate strategies will be invaluable to the discourse.

From an academic perspective, Professor Odikasieme Emmanus Nonyenze, a lecturer at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) and a Certified Protection Professional, will provide his extensive knowledge of safety and security management. With a career focused on advancing safety standards and risk management, Professor Nonyenze’s contributions are poised to shed light on innovative, localised approaches to tackling security issues.

To moderate the discussion is an academician, Prof Kemi Emina is a notable figure whose contributions span across academia, media, and civic engagements. As an academic, Emina has delved into complex subjects such as public discourse and civil society, with his work often reflecting the ideas of Jurgen Habermas. His research focuses on the evolution of the public sphere and its impact on democratic values, rationality, and human rights. His contributions to understanding societal structures and their transformations are well-regarded in scholarly circles.

The event will feature Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, as the Chairman of the Day. Enhancing the intellectual depth of the occasion, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, will deliver the keynote address. His wealth of experience in security management and public relations is expected to set the tone for a robust exchange of ideas.

The 2024 DOPF Lecture Series reaffirms the forum’s commitment to fostering critical conversations that address pressing societal issues. By convening these accomplished individuals, the event aims to craft implementable solutions that resonate with the realities of Delta State and its environs.
