ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has announced the underlying rationale driving its choice of theme for the upcoming 4th Lecture Series and annual convention slated for November 22, 2023. With the spotlight fixed on the theme “Fiscal Policy and Taxation – Balancing Revenue Generation and Economic Growth,” the forum aims to explore the intricate relationship between revenue strategies and sustainable economic development.
In a joint statement signed by Chairman Emmanuel Enebeli and Secretary, Shedrack Onitsha, said, the critical relevance of the chosen topic was emphasized, highlighting its significance in a landscape where governments are actively seeking ways to boost revenue streams while facing challenges in justifying increased taxation in relation to tangible economic growth.
“The topic is very germane, especially with the present conditions where the governments of the day are daily exploring avenues to increase revenue to meet up with development plans, but still, the people find it difficult to understand reasons for the drive for an increase in taxation but little in the areas of economic growth,” stated the organizers.
The statement revealed that the keynote speaker, Dr. Mrs. Doris Amaka Ochei, a tax expert, is expected to provide profound insights into the complexities of taxation and its direct correlation with economic progress. The event will be chaired by a prominent figure in governance and academia, lending prestige and depth to the discourse.
Moreover, the statement hinted at the inclusion of a diverse panel of discussants from various sectors, including representatives from traditional institutions, government bodies, the legislature, and civil society. Notably, Boney Akaeze, Programs Coordinator at the Foundation for Non-Violent Social Change (FNSC) and Convener of The Back of the Yard Vanguard (BYV), will contribute invaluable viewpoints on the view of the Civil Society Organisations.
The annual event commences on November 21, 2023, with the induction of new members, followed by a retreat focusing on business development and strategies for accessing funding from institutions like the Bank of Industry and Premium Trust Bank.
Positioned as a paramount platform for knowledge exchange, the convention aims to foster dialogue among stakeholders, envisioning a trajectory towards a more balanced approach to fiscal policy and taxation. Its objective is to stimulate revenue growth while ensuring sustainable development in the economic landscape.
