AGBOR/Nigeria: Prominent figures including Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and ex-Governor of Borno State Senator Ali Modu Sheriff convened at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, to pay their last respects to the late Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.
The funeral, a somber affair attended by political luminaries, featured eulogies and remembrances for Dr. Ojougboh, a figure known for his multifaceted contributions to Nigerian politics and public service.
Among the notable attendees were former Deputy Governor of Delta State Chief Benjamin Elue, Member Representing Ika Federal Constituency Hon. Victor Nwokolo, and Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency member Hon. Ngozi Okolie, underscoring the widespread impact of Dr. Ojougboh’s life.
Dr. Ojougboh, who passed away on February 7 at the age of 64, held various pivotal roles within Nigerian politics, including serving as a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Renowned for his dedication to public service, Dr. Ojougboh’s legacy extended beyond the political arena, encompassing his tenure as the South-South Chairman of the PDP and his membership in the Interim Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as Executive Director Projects.
During the poignant ceremony, Very Rev’d Fr. Charles Uganwa delivered a moving homily, urging reflection on the inevitability of death and extolling Dr. Ojougboh’s virtues as a patriot, nationalist, and champion of the people.
In his tribute, Dr. Ojougboh’s son, Nkem Ojougboh, celebrated his father’s enduring impact and pledged to uphold his legacy, expressing gratitude to all who offered support to the family during their time of mourning.
In a separate yet poignant event, Governor Oborevwori, accompanied by his deputy Chief Monday Onyeme and former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, also paid respects at the funeral of Senior Apostle Patrick Osuoza in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area, underscoring the unity of purpose in honoring those who have left indelible marks on Delta State and beyond.
