WARRI/Nigeria: The Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Festus Ochonogor, has affirmed the commitment of the commission’s Board to leave an indelible mark within the organization. Chief Ochonogor made this assertion following the conclusion of the monthly Board meeting held at the Commission’s Headquarters in Warri, Delta State.

Chief Ochonogor expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and extensive nature of the meeting, highlighting its productive outcomes. He stated, “Today’s meeting was peaceful and extensive. We arrived at some fruitful decisions which border on staff welfare and the general welfare of the people from DESOPADEC mandate areas. One of our decisions today was the approval to reinstate 14 staff laid off by the previous Board.”

Emphasizing the importance of staff welfare, Chief Ochonogor disclosed that the Board had recently concluded a review of the Staff Conditions of Service through a committee headed by the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Chief Oghenekome Okpobor. He noted, “Also, the ongoing Verification exercise in the commission is aimed at knowing the true number of staff in the Commission. These are mechanisms being put in place for better staff welfare.”

The Managing Director further announced plans for a rescheduled Projects Inspection exercise, initially planned for March but postponed due to security reasons. He stated, “In today’s meeting, we rescheduled the exercise to take place in early May. We want to ascertain the level of the projects completed and identify those we can commission by our first year in office.”

Chief Ochonogor also addressed inquiries regarding the DESOPADEC Skills Academy (DSA), stating that forms had been distributed and were currently being retrieved. Following this, the Commission will conduct a verification exercise to gather all necessary information from the nominees who will participate in the DSA Program.
