OKPANAM/Nigeria: The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, expressed heartfelt condolences on Thursday during a visit to His Royal Majesty Michael Ogbolu, the Ugoani of Okpanam Kingdom, following the passing of Obi Martha Dunkwu, the Omu of Okpanam.
Describing the late Omu as a significant loss not only to the Okpanam community but to all who valued African heritage, Onyeme urged the Ugoani and the people of Okpanam to find comfort in the inevitability of death.
In his words, Onyeme stated, “Your Royal Majesty, I want to thank you for allowing us into your palace today despite the short notice. We heard about the passage of the Omu, Obi Martha Dunkwu, and we are here to tell you that it is a great loss to humanity.”
He continued, “It has happened, and she will be greatly missed not only by the people of Okpanam but by lovers of African tradition which she cherished. The death of the Omu is a loss that has affected us all, given the significant role she played and was playing in our collective life.”
Expressing gratitude for the support, the Ugoani assured the Deputy Governor of the kingdom’s unwavering support for the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme.
He remarked, “I want to assure the Deputy Governor of Delta State of the support and solidarity of the good people of Okpanam Kingdom. The Omu worked tirelessly to transform our community from a rural to an urban one.”
The Ugoani concluded by stating that the government would be informed of the scheduled date to celebrate the life and passage of the late Omu, ensuring active participation from the people of Okpanam.
“Today is not a speech-making day,” the Ugoani emphasized, “Having said that, I want to again assure His Excellency of the continuous support of the Okpanam Kingdom.”
