Delta Youths Urged to Embrace Focus and Leadership at ‘Power of Her’ Conference

ASABA/Nigeria: Female youths in Delta State have been urged to remain focused in their pursuit of life and career goals. This message was delivered during the inaugural “Power of Her” conference, organised by Engr. Miracle Arimobi, Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Female Youth Development.

Held at Unity Hall in Asaba on Friday, 18th October 2024, the event aimed to equip young women with essential tools for excelling in leadership, governance, and personal development.

The conference, a collaboration between Engr. Arimobi and the Motivating African Youths Initiative (MAY-I), by Dr. Ogenna Walter Ekwubiri, sought to address gender disparities and highlight the crucial role of young women in driving societal change. In her opening address, Arimobi emphasised the importance of the platform as a space for fostering a community of inspiring women, committed to making a positive impact on society. She noted that participants would have the opportunity to learn from prominent female leaders, gaining actionable strategies to enhance their roles in leadership and governance.

“I am deeply grateful to Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for granting me the platform to share my vision for women. The MORE Agenda for female leadership, governance, and self-development will undoubtedly be realised in Delta State,” Arimobi stated, expressing her appreciation for the governor’s support.

Among the distinguished speakers was the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, who spoke on “Leading with Purpose – The Impact of Female Leadership,” stressing the importance of leadership driven by clear purpose. “True leadership is about guiding others towards a shared goal, inspiring collective action. Women have the capacity to excel in these roles,” Dr Emu remarked.

Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Member representing Ika North East in the Delta State House of Assembly, shared insights on “Work-Life Balance: Strategies for Managing Career, Education, and Personal Life.” She urged women to prioritise self-empowerment and personal growth, particularly in political and leadership roles.

Chief Mrs Bello Love, Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Export, led discussions on “Mentorship and Networking for Women,” stressing the importance of seeking mentors and building supportive networks that empower women to thrive in leadership.

Other key speakers included Honourable Orode Uduaghan, Delta State Commissioner for Humanitarian Support and Girl Child Development, who spoke on “Empowering Female Leadership,” and Mrs Adenike Lawal, General Manager of LASODA, who addressed the challenges of breaking barriers and stereotypes in leadership roles. Leadership expert Dr Linus Okorie also provided strategies for overcoming modern leadership challenges.

Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, wife of the Delta State Governor, was represented by Mrs Mary Erijo, who delivered an inspiring message of resilience and assured the female youths of the state government’s commitment to supporting their continued development.

The “Power of Her” conference concluded with a shared determination among participants to make a lasting impact. Engr. Arimobi expressed her hope that the event would inspire a movement for female leadership, empowering young women across Delta State and beyond to rise to influential positions and shape the future.
