Delta State’s SERVICOM Resurgence Marks Shift Towards Enhanced Government Accountability – Ifeajika

ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to bolster service delivery across Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and local government councils in Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has reignited the SERVICOM Initiative.

The announcement was made by Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), during a press conference held in Asaba on Monday.

Expressing concern over the declining service standards, Ifeajika emphasized the necessity for public servants to adapt to the evolving demands. He noted the historical presence of SERVICOM but acknowledged its failure to catalyze substantial improvements in service quality.

Highlighting Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to fostering excellence in governance, Ifeajika stressed the pivotal role of disciplined and accountable public service. He underscored the governor’s directive to motivate workers towards delivering optimal service while executing their duties.

“The new directive underscores the pivotal role of public service as the lifeblood and brain trust of government,” Ifeajika remarked. “A disciplined and responsible public service is indispensable for effective governance.”

Established by the Federal Government in 2004, SERVICOM aims to ensure efficient service delivery in all agencies. Although domesticated in Delta State in 2009, its impact has been limited. However, with the resurgence of SERVICOM under Governor Oborevwori’s administration, a renewed focus on service excellence is anticipated.

Ifeajika affirmed the integration of SERVICOM into the governance framework, stressing every Deltan’s right to quality service. He revealed ongoing efforts to sensitize MDAs and local government councils on the government’s priorities, with SERVICOM units mandated for compliance.

Moreover, Ifeajika addressed concerns regarding the illegal conversion of government lands for private use, affirming the establishment of a Task Force to reclaim such lands. He warned of strict enforcement measures, including the demolition of unauthorized structures.

“In Delta, a resolute commitment to disciplined and accountable governance prevails,” Ifeajika emphasized. “These policies are instrumental for our state’s sustainable development, and their adoption is imperative.”

As Delta State embarks on a journey towards enhanced public service, the revival of SERVICOM underscores Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to fostering a culture of excellence and accountability in governance.
