Delta State’s M.O.R.E Agenda: Governor Insists on Value for Money

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering high-quality projects that serve the public interest, stating that personal relationships will not influence decisions on development.

Governor Oborevwori made the declaration on Thursday during an inspection of several ongoing projects in Asaba, the state capital. He emphasized that competence, integrity, and value for money are core principles of his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

The projects inspected included the Ogbeosonwe, Ogbeilo Road, Ogbogonogo Market storm drainage project, and Ogbe-Ofu Road, Off Jarret Road, Cable Point, Asaba. Other notable sites included the 1.7km Amaechi Agusi Street and 10 adjoining streets in Okpanam, alongside Dorah Allanah Street, Oluu Street, and Redeemer’s Street, among others.

Governor Oborevwori reiterated his commitment to ensuring contractors deliver quality work. “I was elected to serve the people of Delta, not to please a select few. Friendship cannot and will not take precedence over the quality of projects we provide for the people,” he said.

Highlighting issues with some local contractors, the governor expressed concern over subpar work by certain indigenous firms. “The problem we are having majorly is with the indigenous contractors. If you don’t patronize them, they accuse you of neglecting local businesses. But those who fail to deliver quality will be blacklisted,” he stated.

Oborevwori assured Deltans that his administration’s focus remains on public interest. “The interest of the majority is paramount. Some contractors may not be happy, but the masses appreciate what we are doing. If you want to be my friend, do a good job. If not, I will kick you out,” he warned.

Addressing requests for upward project reviews, the governor acknowledged the rising cost of materials and assured contractors of fairness. However, he insisted on thorough inspections before any adjustments. “We will only review projects awarded in 2022 and early 2023, given the significant rise in costs. But these reviews come with a firm expectation of quality delivery,” he explained.

Governor Oborevwori also urged Asaba residents to maintain clean environments and directed relevant state agencies to enforce compliance with waste management regulations.

“Our focus is on real, sustainable development, not media shows. Contractors must do the right thing, and residents must support by keeping their surroundings clean,” he added.

The governor’s inspection reflects his administration’s determination to meet the developmental aspirations of Deltans while ensuring accountability and transparency in project execution.
