Delta State Vows to Reclaim Illegally Acquired Government Lands

ASABA/Nigeria: In a decisive move against land grabbing, the Delta State Government has committed to recovering all government lands unlawfully acquired across the state. Chairman of the State Taskforce on Land Recovery and Outright Demolition Committee, Chief Frank Omare, reiterated this pledge during a meeting at the Government House, Asaba.

Chief Omare emphasized that any structures on Dennis Osadebay University’s land lacking a Certificate of Occupancy would face demolition. He condemned the rampant encroachment on government lands, emphasizing the necessity of adhering to legal procedures for land acquisition.

Warning against impunity, Chief Omare stressed that no one would be exempt from the government’s efforts to reclaim unlawfully acquired lands. He advised individuals without proper documentation to vacate the affected areas, as illegal structures would not be spared.

The Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba, Professor Ben Oghojafor, expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for establishing the committee tasked with reclaiming the university’s encroached land. Prof Oghojafor dispelled rumors implicating the school in land racketeering and affirmed the institution’s commitment to land recovery.

While some owners of unlawfully acquired properties appealed for leniency, they also urged thorough investigations to differentiate between legitimate and illegitimate landholders. The Delta State Government’s stance underscores its determination to uphold the rule of law and protect public assets from exploitation.
